Activity Name: IEEE International Conference- “International Infosec Summit, Bangladesh”
Activity Date: 17th February 2019
This Symposium is driven by InfoSec Foundation, and Enterprise IT World. The Topic of the event covered Cyber Security Roadmap for Financial Sector/ Industry 4.0 / AI & Blockchain / Startups in IT Security ecosystem, Agility and Flexibility in adopting Cyber Security for Telecom/ Cloud/ Infra Providers, etc.
This is a platform that aims to bring together the MD/CEOs/CIOs/CDOs/CISOs in Global CISO’s with an agenda to interact and discuss the latest trends in Information Security and share their key experiences and learning. It was an excellent opportunity for the attendee companies to showcase their services, credibility and product related to Information Security. Delegates from all over the world were present in the Conference. Minister- planning, Govt of Bangladesh was present in the conference. Industry activity Coordinator ofIEEE Bangladesh Section, Mr. Azfar Adib was also present in the event.

Activity Name: Second International Conference on Advanced Computational and Communication Paradigms (ICACCP-2019)

This year COMSOC Kolkata Chapter was one of the Technical Sponsors for the Second International Conference on Advanced Computational and Communication Paradigms (ICACCP-2019), Organized by: Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, East Sikkim, Sikkim, India, during February 25-28, 2019.

The past Chapter Chair Prof. Iti Saha Misra IEEE ComSoc Kolkata was in the ICACCP advisory committee. She was also an invited speaker at the conference. She delivered her invited talk on 26 Feb 2019 on the topic “Cognitive Radio and Some Prospective Applications for 5G Communication”. There were about 60 participants in the lecture session.
It was a wonderful experience to be a part of ICACCP 2019 International conference at the beautiful Himalayan foothills of Sikkim. The conference was very well organized with high-quality delegates. More than 95% paper was presented.
Activity Name: IEEE AP CCC Meeting at Shanghai
Activity Date: 20th – 24th May, 2019
This initiative is technically supported by IEEE COMSOC. The event was sponsored by IEEE Region 10.
Mr. Pallab Ganguly, Chairman – IEEE Comsoc Kolkata Section, attended the meeting at Hotel Shangri-La, Shanghai and presented the Kolkata chapter activities in details. This meeting has occurred in conjunction with the conference IEEE International Conference on Communications, 20-24 May 2019. The Harbin chapter has showcased their excellence in attaining the best chapter award. There were various discussions on the membership development programs and the Industry oriented initiatives.
Activity Name: Industry Panel at the International Conference IEEE TENSYMP, 2019
Activity Date: 7th – 9th June, 2019
The IEEE International Conference, TENSYMP, 2019 was held at the Biswa Bangla Convention Center from 7th to 9th June, 2019. The panel discussion was driven by IEEE COMSOC Chairman, Mr. Pallab Ganguly who was also the Industry Liaison Chairman of the Conference. This initiative is supported byIEEE COMSOC & NASSCOM.
The event was sponsored byCISCO, ERICSSON, Vehere & Power Grid.
IEEE TENSYMP, 2019 IRC Panel Discussion held on“How IEEE can help Industry and vice-versa”.The moderator wasMr. Pallab Ganguly, Chairman, IEEE, COMSOC, Kolkata Chapter.
The eminent panelist were Mr. Sandeep Sengupta, Director, ISOAH; Mr. Sanjay Das – Jt. Secretary (IT & E), Govt of West Bengal; Mr. Partha Sengupta (Senior VP, ITC Infotech); Mr. Sanjay Prasad (CIO, CESC LTD); Dr. Sourav Dutta (CTO , PAYBACK, an AmEx Company); Mr. Rana Pratap Sircar (Head of Innovation, Ericsson Digital Services SDU India). The panel was fortunate to have the presence of IEEE Region 10 Director, Mr. Akinori Nishiharaand actively supported by ComSoc Kolkata Chapter immediate past Chair Prof. Iti Saha Misra.
Activity Name: Special Event on behalf of ComSoc Kolkata Chapter – Student Paper Contest on Communication in ICACCP 2019
Activity Date: 27th February 2019
For the encouragement of the students dealing with communication fields, COMSOC Kolkata Chapter has organized the best paper contest on the session of communication on 27 Feb 2019 in ICACCP 2019. Two best paper awards were given based on the content of the paper, paper review report and the presentation at the session. Winners were given the certificate and a token money of Rs. 3000 each.

Activity Name: One day workshop on “Optical fibre Communication with real-time case study in the Industry
Activity Date: 9th July 2019
A lecture presentation by Industry Expert Mr. Koushik Dutta, Asst.Manager, CESC, followed by a workshop on Optical fiber communication including live demo was arranged on 9th July,2019 at the Broadband Wireless Communication Lab, Annex Building, ETCE Department first floor, Jadavpur University.
The practical demonstration included the following steps:-
- The splicing and termination of optical fibres
- Switches and Media converter configuration and implementation
- End to End communication from Machine A to Machine B thru the optical fiber cable
Faculties, Researchers, PhD Scholars, ME/M.Tech and BE/B.Tech Students attended the workshop and were benefited with the live demonstrations of optical fibre splicing, termination, end to end communication and configuration of media converters, switches, PCs etc.
Activity Name: Three-Day Workshop on Wireless Communication, IOT, Big Data Analytics and Computations
Activity Date: 14th – 16th February 2019
ComSoc Kolkata Chapter has the technical cosponsor of the event for 3-day workshop held during Feb 14-16 2019 with the financial support of UGC UPE-II Scheme of Jadavpur University under mobile computing and innovative applications. Two technical lectures were hosted on the first day of the workshop in the association with COMSOC Kolkata Chapter. Renowned professors from IIT KGP were among the experts. Prof. Saswat Chakrabprty has delivered a very interesting topic on “Cognitive Communication” in his own pragmatic style. The second lecture was delivered by Prof. Suvra Sekhar Das on “5G Technology developments” in a mesmerizing manner. There were 55 participants for the two lectures.
Activity Name: IEEE Technical Lectures
Activity Date: 4th June & 6th June 2019
In the year 2019, COMSOC Kolkata Chapter has organized two interesting technical lectures on June 4 and June 6 , 2019 both at the Broadband Wireless Communication Lab of ETCE Department, Jadavpur University.
- Tanumay Manna has presented 1.30 hours lecture on “Studies for the design of Wireless Body Area Network over Cognitive Radio Networks” where master’s and PhD students have participated. The session was very interactive and technically intense. Dr. Manna Spoke very confidently for each of the related question raised by the audience.
- The second lecture meeting was delivered by Dr. Rana Pratap Sircar, Vice-Chair of IEEE ComSoc Kolkata Chapter, and Director of Technology and Innovation of Ericsson, Delhi Centre on the very upcoming topic of “Quantum Computation and Quantum Information”.The lecture was participated by bachelor and master degree students of Jadavpur University and other engineering colleges. Dr Sircar spoke in length about the very nascent development of this new era.
